Day 5 Tromsø to Lofoten

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

After getting up early we left Tromsø at about 8:15 this morning as the drive to Svolvær on the Lofoten islands is 420km, which means about 6-8hours (90km max.) depending on how often you stop along the way. The drive was beautiful as you can see on the pictures below.

In Svolvær we stay at the Scandic Hotel, right at the harbor. We got lucky and also have a room looking at the harbor. After checking in and getting our stuff upstairs to the room we went out to explore the city. Its small but cute and there are a few places to grab something to eat and also to get done some shopping if needed.

Dinner was pizza with a view onto the harbor and an arriving Hurtigruten ship. As the aurora forecasts said today should be the day to get a chance to the nothern lights we went out after dinner at aroun 7pm and it was amazing the sky was already glowing eventhough it was not entirely dark at that time. I will add an extra post about this incredible evening tomorrow. Good night everyone.

Day 4: Berlin-Oslo-Tromsø

We are now on our way to Oslo, Norway.

Check in/ bag drop with Norwegian literally took 2 minutes. As usual we were way too early. The shuttle from the hotel (Holiday inn Berlin Airport) was on time and only took 8 min to the airport. Berlin Schönefeld is a small airport compared to  Frankfurt and it is busy! So plan some time for the security check.

Ready to go!!!

Update from Oslo Lufthavn

This airport is awesome. Its all new and shiny, lots of great places to eat and enough seating! We had a great lunch and will now proceed to our flight to Tromsø.

Update Tromsø:

We arrived in time at 4:30pm. LUnfortunately only one of our bags made it, the other one was not traceable…we filed a claim and went to the hotel in our cool new Toyota Auris Hybrid. The hotel  (Smarthotel Tromsø) is right in the center and it takes about 2min to reach shops and everything else. We went for a walk and the lighting was beautiful! After we didnt hear anything from Norwegian we decided to go to the airport to check the lost luggage situation and luckily our bag was there. Now after an exciting day off to bed. Below some impressions of Tromsø, the capital of the arctic.

Day 3 Berlin

Today we went to Berlin. We visited the Reichstag, Brandenburger Tor and the DDR Museum. Our timing with the museum was perfect because it started to rain, it was basically pouring. Its a cool place with a lot of interesting stuff to see. Later we visited my cousin in her beatiful new flat and then checked in into our Park, Sleep and Fly Hotel close to Berlin Schönfeld Airport where our car will wait for our us until we are back from Norway…

Next stop airport!

It’s a wrap…

… today was the last day of work for the next 72 days 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

I admit, it probably will take some time getting used to the thought.

Yesterday we had our hiking guide in the mail. Really good guide, nice maps and detailled descriptions.

For a general travel guide I could not decide yet. All major guides only have a couple of pages about northern Norway.

4 days to go…

…and only 3 more days at work. Tomorrow is Germanys annual national holiday, therefore we do not have to work. It is a crazy thought that we only have to go to work 3 more times. The thought of being off for so long has motivated us a great deal during the  past couple of weeks.
