The largest city in northern Iceland, Akureyri, is a charming place. With a population of only around 18.000, it sounds small, but as the biggest place for hundreds of kilometers it feels like the center of the universe 🙂The church of Akureyri or Akureyrarkirkja was designed by Guðjón Samúelsson, the architect who was also responsible for Reykjavík’s Hallgrímskirkja. In general the churches in Iceland, or at least in the bigger urban areas, have a special design.
With its position on Eyjafjörður and mountains all around, Akureyri is just a pretty town which we really liked, eventhough that it was pretty much snowing all the time and it was very cold. We will definitely come back in the summer or fall.
