Day 64 of our sabbatical was dedicated to Guadeloupe, a French départment in the Carribean. Guadeloupe are actually a couple of islands with two islands, Basse Terre and Grand Terre being the main islands. Our ship anchored in Pointe-a-Pietre. Pointe-a-Pietre is not really pretty and its weird to drive through town as it feels like being in France.
As a French départment Guadeloupe is part of the European Union and you can pay with Euro. They have the French minimum wage, school system etc. They also have a high price level, almost the same as in the EU.
A funny anecdote is that if you want to fly to France, which takes about 8-10 hours it is considered a domestic flight and will cost about 400€. If you want to fly to the Dominican Republic or Florida which are only about 3 hours away it will cost twice as much because it is an international flight. I think this is hilarious.
Guadeloupe has a wide mountain range, rain forest and lots of cost line. In my opinion it is not the typical Carribean island, at least not as I used to picture them in my head.
I will let the pictures speak for themselves. Tell me what you think 🙂
