After a much more quiet night in the hostel (well everything is quiet compared to our cabin on the ship) we started our trip down south again. Our destination for the day was Alta. Alta is the biggest town in the Finnmark area with a population of about 20.000.
The weather was about the same as the last couple of days. Rain mixed with sun, sometimes snow but only a little wind. It was cold though.
The first highlight of the day happend about 1 minute after we left the hostel. We saw a reindeer. It was just there out of the blue 🙂
On our way along E69 Hubby suddently stopped the car (I think we saw like 20 cars in 3 hours so no problem) and said do you see the bird over there, its rather big. So we got out the zoom lens and what a surprise it was a sea eagle. What a beautiful creature.
Halfway to Alta we needed some fresh air so we got out at a waterfall and played a bit with the camera and a ND filter.
When we reached Alta we headed straight to our accomodation for the night, Holmen Husky Lodge. What a cool place. They have 96 dogs (Huskies, Border Collies etc.). The dogs are all trained sled dogs and each and every one of them has a name for example they have got Darth and Vader 🙂 There are some young volunteers or probably rather work and travel people who help run the show and take care of the dogs, as they are (all of them) being trained (summer and winter) 5x a week. Each training session is for 6 dogs (this is quantity necessary to pull a sled) and they run about 25km. Saturday and Sunday are off in the off season. Really a lovely place!
The lodge is a little bit like a hostel, you sleep in a very comfy Tipi, with no electrical heating and a shared bathroom/shower. There is a beautiful lounge and everthing is very lovingly furnished.
